Seasonal Summer Employment Opportunities

The Rutland Department of Recreation is looking for the following seasonal employees for the 2014 summer season.  If interested please send a letter of interest and resume to The Recreation Department 250 Main St. Rutland, Ma 01543 or e-mailed to recreation@townofrutland.org.  Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.

Water Safety Instructors
General statement of duties
Plan and conduct swimming lessons for children.~ WSI Instructors report to the Head
Lifeguard and/or Recreation Director.~ Must keep accurate class records.~
Must maintain certification in Water Safety Instruction and Lifeguarding.~ Must maintain certification in CPR/First Aid.~ Must enjoy working with children.~ Prefer instructors who are 17 and older.~ Must have knowledge to conduct group classes in various swimming abilities and conduct classes in water as needed. Must have a cooperative attitude and be willing to work as a team member.~ Must enforce the rules and regulations of the swimming pool operation regulated by the Board of Health and the Recreation Department.

Lifeguards
General statement of duties
Serve as a lifeguard at The Rutland Town Pool.  Lifeguards report to the Head Lifeguard and/or Recreation Director.
Must maintain certification in Lifeguarding.~ Must maintain certification in CPR/First Aid.~ Must hold current Red Cross or YMCA lifeguard Training Certification.  Must have a cooperative attitude and be willing to work as a team member.~ Must enforce the rules and regulations of swimming pool operation regulated by the Board of Health and the Recreation Department.

Snack Shack and Pool Attendant
Required to serve as both a pool attendant and a snack shack attendant as needed.  Some of the duties include but are not limited to checking pool passes, answering resident questions, signing children up for swim lessons, selling food and beverages.  Will be responsible for handling money and must posses the ability to multitask.  Hours include weekdays and weekends.  

Summer Fun Director:
The responsibilities of the Director include:  The planning and execution of daily and weekly activities and themes, purchasing of supplies, the scheduling of staff and camper enrollment, oversight of Summer Fun staff, weekly meetings, and daily operation.  The Director will report to the Director of Recreation, and handle interactions with parents/guardians and the completion of all necessary paperwork.  Must be able to work the entire 5 weeks July 7th-August 8th.
A degree and/or  prior experience in recreation program(s), or in a related field, required.  Current CPR/first aid/AED certification is required.


Assistant Summer Fun Director:
The Assistant Director will report directly to the program Director, and must have a high school diploma and current CPR/first aid/AED certification.  Previous experience in recreation program(s), or in a related field, is preferred.  Responsibilities include: assistance with staff evaluations and support, oversight of safety and behavior of campers; management of daily attendance and enrollment; supervision of onsite and offsite activities; execution of daily activities; attendance and participation at weekly meetings; and the completion of all necessary paperwork.


Summer Fun Counselor
Counselors are to provide supervision, instruction and enrichment to the summer fun participants.   Required to lead a schedule of diversified programs and recreation activities.   Work cooperatively with other instructors in the summer fun program.   Must enjoy working with children and previous experience working with children a plus.  Will need to perform additional duties as requested.   Program runs from July 7th-August 8th.
