Special Election Press Release

246 Main Street, Rutland, MA 01375
PHONE:  (508) 886-4131
FAX:  (508) 886-7913

A Special Town Election will be held in Rutland on Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. to present the following debt exclusion ballot question to voters.
Shall the Town of Rutland be allowed to exempt from the provisions of proposition two and one-half, so-called, the amounts required to pay for the balance of the bonds issued as voted at the Special Town Meeting of March 12, 1996 (Article 1) for the purposes of constructing, originally equipping and furnishing Central Tree Middle School, and remodeling, reconstructing or making extraordinary repairs to Naquag Elementary School?
A Yes vote would fund the specified debt service through a temporary tax levy increase. When the debt is paid off in 3 years, the additional property taxes will be removed from the levy.

A No vote would fund the specified debt service from the existing tax levy as an
on-budget expense until the debt is paid off in 3 years.

A tax impact calculator and detailed information on the reasons for presenting the debt exclusion ballot question can be found on the Town’s website (
